Subject Information - Physical Education

Physical Education not only develops motor skills and competences by participating in a variety of activities such as games, gymnastics, dance, fitness training and athletics, it develops personal attitudes, social skill (when they work in teams) and independence (when working alone to create sequences or navigating an orienteering course).

Students need to use a wide range of cognitive skills. They need to listen, understand and memorise instructions. They assess and evaluate their own and others work and are required to give constructive feedback. Students need to be involved in problem solving when devising tactics in games lessons. They create their own sequences in gymnastics and dance and have to be mindful of safety in all activities studied.

They take on different roles and responsibilities in PE from organising equipment, to leading, coaching and umpiring others.

Through being involved in a range of experiences it is hoped that students will learn to be effective in competitive, creative and challenging situations.
