The course will encourage students to acquire knowledge and understanding of the hardware and software used to provide ICT services, acquire and apply the basic skills and techniques needed by those working in ICT services, use ICT for the presentation and manipulation of information, understand how to appropriately use software applications in day-to-day life,
A pass level in BTEC Diploma in Information and Communication Technology Is equivalent to four GCSEs (A-C*).
Unit 1: Using ICT to Present Information You will learn about different document styles and how they suit different purposes and audiences. You will create and compose a variety of documents using software tools and techniques that suit their different purposes.
Unit 2: Introduction to Computer systems You will learn the different uses of computers in homes and businesses. Learn how to select software for a user and configure it. Learn about common types of hardware and how to connect hardware devices to a personal computer system. We also ask pupils to select one of two units depending on their own interests.
Unit 7: Software Development and Design You will learn about the software development process ( what steps need to be taken when making new software). You will learn to design and produce a software component using Visual Basic. Learn how to debug, test and document software.

Unit 8: Customising Software You will learn why application software is customised. Learn how to customise application software. Learn how to create templates, macros and shortcuts in application packages to make tasks easier and more efficient for a given user.
Unit 4: Website Development You will create and upload a multi-page website to meet a clients needs. You will learn about the different purposes and formats of websites. You will also learn about different methods used to create pages such as HTML and authoring software.
Unit 9: Database Software You will learn about the structure and principles of databases. You will set up a flat file database, create input forms, design queries and reports.
Unit 10: Spreadsheet Software You will learn about what spreadsheets are and how they can be used. You will create complex spreadsheets that use a range of formulae, functions and features and be able to present, analyse and interpret data. Again, in year 11 we ask pupils to select one of two units depending on their interests.
Unit 6: Networking essentials Learn about the use, hardware and software of networks. Learn about the different features and services of local and wide area networks. Be able to set up and use a simple local area network.

Unit 18: ICT Graphics In this unit you will learn about the hardware and software required to work with graphic images. You will also learn how to create and modify graphic images to meet a user need and select, acquire and import appropriate images to enhance a document.
