During terms 1 and 2, Year 7 students revisit the foundation skills for art and design. We add to students' knowledge and understanding week-on-week and ensure they have sound understanding of terms and use of subject specific language.
Terms 3,4,5 and 6 are a series of shorter projects where students follow a theme. For each of these they follow a set theme. The skills covered are ICT, print-making, ceramics and painting. Alongside all class work, students are taught to use a sketchbook as an independent learning log.
Year 8 and 9 students are following a new scheme of work. This has all elements of the national curriculum covered in it including ICT, Internationalism and personalised learning. Sketchbooks play a key role in developing students' individual responses to what is set as well as building upon their prior knowledge of critical and contextual understanding.
GCSE students follow the AQA GCSE syllabus. They work on termly projects following different themes. At the end of Year 10 and Christmas of Year 11, students take timed exams to practice the process for their final exam.
Students follow the edexcell board qualification. There are a series of 2D and 3D assignments at the start of Year 10 (units 1 and 2), then a series of specialised assignments. At SBL we have selected to follow the graphics and fine art optional units (5 and 11). In term 2 of Year 11, students begin their final major projects (units 3 and 4).
Students follow the AQA exam board qualification. Working in units, students produce a variety of outcomes. In Year 13 we follow units 4, 6 and 7. We do not complete the extending written research (unit 5). All students take part in an exposition of their work in the summer terms of Years 12 and 13.
