Year 11 Self-Portraits Wallhanging
Date:Monday 11th May 2009

For their mock exam at the end of November 2008, Year 11 Textiles Art students were inspired by the portraiture work created by Chloe Weston for her GCSE exam.

Year 11 Self-Portraits Wallhanging

They had their photo taken by Mr Lowe and some students took the opportunity to take their own photos to work from. They researched a variety of textile artists, Andy Warhol and Picasso. They experimented with a variety of textile techniques including learning how to free machine embroider. After designing their individual panel they produced a variety of exciting and creative design sheets to display their preparation work.

During the 5 hour exam, all students worked hard to create their own unique individual portrait, which was set against a black fabric frame when stitched together. You can view a larger image of the wallhanging here.

Next year, the wallhanging will be displayed at the Embroiderers Guild Exhibition in February 2010.

Well done to all students who achieved such a high standard of work and contributed to a unique wallhanging.
