Science

As a core national curriculum subject science offers all students opportunities to explore and make sense of the processes and events that make our world an exciting, evolving and ultimately fragile place to live.

Science at SBL is taught by a highly skilled, experienced and well qualified team of enthusiastic teachers from diverse professional backgrounds. Our common aim is to encourage all students to engage actively and energetically with learning opportunities that build on their own experiences to develop the new skills, knowledge and understanding that will help them become well-informed and confident members of our increasingly complex and technological society.

Accommodation and resourcing

Science teaching and learning is centred around a suite of nine laboratories each equipped with the services and resources that enable students to develop their scientific knowledge and understanding through active, hands-on learning. Science is well funded from the school’s central budget and this allows the department to offer students a practical approach to learning which is fully supported by some of the latest published resources.  All laboratories have interactive whiteboards and internet access which support teaching and learning and the use of a range of e-learning strategies and resources.

"We aim to enrich our students by providing excitement and challenge in all areas of the curriculum and by giving them opportunities to play a full part in the life of the school and of the community."
